CHILD PROTECTION LEGISLATION EFFECTIVE 2008
Dear Members,
The British Weightlifters Association, in line with Government requirements, are
introducing an updated Policy which relates to Child Protection within the Sport
of Weightlifting and Powerlifting.
This new Policy will affect every club and member who has any involvement with
Children under the age of 18 years, either as members or coaches.
The Child Protection Officer for the West Midlands Division is:
Charlotte Hoey
2 Cottage Close
Nuneaton
CV11 6JE
charlottehoey@yahoo.co.uk
07855214635
Every club within the Division that is affiliated to BWLA must have a BWLA
member who is responsible in that club for Child Protection.
Would all clubs please send your details to Charlotte so that we are able to
produce a register for BWLA.
Further, every member responsible for Child Protection, must have a current CRB
which has to be in BWLA’s possession with a copy held by the Divisional Officer.
If any club does not have member responsible for Child Protection, this is a
requirement we MUST comply with, and you can obtain further information from
either myself or Charlotte.
In the case where any form of Child abuse may take place
Clubs or their members must notify the BWLA Child Protection Lead Officer, Lynn
Amos immediately so that the correct action may be taken and advice given to the
member or Club.
For any questions or queries please contact Charlotte in the first instance, or
otherwise lynnamos@blueyonder.co.uk
If any clubs do not have a Child Protection Policy in place, and there are
members in that club under 18 years old, it should be noted that it is a legal
requirement for that club to have a Child Protection Policy and a recognised
member responsible for all/any reports of abuse.
Again please contact any of the above people for any advice or assistance you
may require.
Yours Sincerely
Arthur Hoey
West Midlands Secretary
