British Unequipped Powerlifting Championships

Although there were a number of members of the Club that qualified for the competition, most at the All England Powerlifting Championships in August, Natasha Grocher-Branch was the sole representative from the Club at the competition. Natasha starting training at the Club as part of the Introduction to Powerlifting sessions hosted by the Club under the London Playsports scheme. Natasha had previously qualified for the British Championships at her first competition in June, with a 100kg squat, 50kg bench press and 125kg deadlift, for a 275kg total in the 60kg class.

On the day of the competition, Natasha was unable to make the 60kg class, which meant that she faced class of three people, including Nicola Payne, a member of the GB Senior team, in the 67.5kg class. Natasha lifted well in the squat, to finish on 122.5kg, a massive improvement on her performance from June, and a British Unequipped record. This left Natasha with a sizeable lead over Nicola, who finished on 105kg. Moving into the Bench Press, Natasha was successful with a personal best of 57.5kg, with Nicola pressing 67.5kg. Going into the final discipline, Natasha was still in the lead, but despite pulling 137.5kg to finish with a 317.5kg total, Nicola was able to take the lead. Taking the silver medal in her first British Championships, and making massive improvements on all three lifts, this was a great performance from Natasha.
