South East Squat Championships

Ben Banks and Faisal Ahmed Spaul represented British Barbell as guest lifters at the South East Squat Championships. Spaul, a relatively new member to the Club, has been training with the Team for just under a month, and was entering his first competition and looking to complete his first lifts in front of the referees. Spaul opened with a very comfortable 160kg, before moving to 180kg and finally 200kg. All the lifts received three white lights, and he seemed to have plenty more left in the tank; this is a fitting end to a hard month's work and should set him up for future competitions. Spaul is still a junior lifter, and will remain so for 2008, so with some hard work, hopefully he will be able to qualify for the British Junior Powerlifting Championships, which should be scheduled for early 2008. Ben Banks also lifted well, opening with 260kg, moving to 270kg on his second and 280kg for his final attempt. All the lifts received three white lights which should hopefully leave him confident with these weights if he is selected for the World Junior Powerlifting Championships in September.
