South East Bench Press Championships

Ben Banks and Andy Ly represented British Barbell as guest lifters at the South East Bench Press Championships. Both lifters used the competition to test out the slight modifications they had made to their techniques following on from the European Juniors. Andy Ly hit a new competition best of 180kg, in a long and very well fought lift. Ben Banks opened with 220kg, before moving to 230kg and finishing on 240kg, achieving three white lights on all three lifts. This was a new personal best for Ben, and was an unofficial British Junior record.

Both lifters have been working on their competition technique, and it is important that they try to get three whites on every completed lift in domestic competition, if their lifts are to gain the approval of international referees abroad.
