Great Britain Junior Powerlifting Championships 2007

After missing his opening squat of 280kg on depth, Andy Ly jumped to 300kg, a Greater London U23 record, only to lose his balance and be helped into the racks by the loaders. Needing his final lift to stay in the competition, Andy came through with three white lights. Andy went on to place first in the 90kg class in the Under 23 competition with lifts of 160kg on the bench and 265kg for the deadlift, for a total of 725kg, a new Greater London U23 record, and edging the win over the North Midlands' Mark Gregory.

Ben Banks placed first in the 110kg class in the Under 23 competition, retaining his title in his last year as a Junior. Ben's lifts of 280kg in the squat, 200kg on the bench (a Greater London U23 record) and 300kg for the deadlift, for a 780kg total were too much for Paul Whatson, who had just moved up from the U20s.

Both Ben and Andy's performance earned them invites to the Great Britain Junior Squads for international competitions in 2007. Click here for the full results.
