Club Refurbishment
Following several months preparation and planning, this bank holiday weekend saw the first major stage of the refurbishment of the Club. Following the Saturday Club session, a group of members stayed back to help move all of the equipment to one side of the gym, while the carpet fitters laid one side of the carpet, and then heaved everything back across so that they could finish the job. Special thanks to Ed and Andy for helping to shift all of the equipment around, including well over 1000kg of plates, and to Spaul for negotiating the carpet prices.

We hope you all appreciate the newly refurbished Club and keep your eyes peeled for some more additions in the coming months. The new layout should enable our training facilities to better cater for the increased capacity in the training sessions and when the Club hosts the National squads.

was that of the platform. This had been painstakingly prepared by Roy,
the Club Equipment Adviser. Consisting of a first layer of a mesh of
2"x2", consisting of over 200 joints, which creates the air pockets to
absorb the shocks when big deadlifts are returned to the platform. On
top of the mesh sit four boards of marine grade plywood, weighing in at
50kg each, which form a 2" layer to reinforce the gaps over the air
pockets. Then sitting on top of the platform is a healthy layer of
rubber matting, finished off with some metal edging. Included in the
design are the removable covers, which hide the connection points to
attach bands for explosive training on the deadlift. The Club owes a
great deal of thanks to Roy for the many weekends of work he spent
preparing the platform and the ~20hours on the bank holiday weekend that
was spent installing it. We really can not emphasise the amount of work
that has gone
into the platform, which has produced a customised solution for the
Club, and needless to say, in a
very cost effective manner.
