Greater London Weightlifting Association

Annual General Meeting

British Barbell were represented at the AGM by Rebecca Yeoh, Ben Banks and Faisal Ahmed Spaul. The meeting discussed the general situation of the division and also proposed the idea of joint training sessions between the five London Clubs. British Barbell has extended an open invitation to the other London lifters to the Club sessions, and we hope to initially organise some sessions for novices building into their first competition.

Also at the meeting, British Barbell Junior lifter, Andy Ly, was approved for the Greater London Award. The Award recognises outstanding achievements by Junior lifters from London Clubs. Andy was approved based on winning the 90kg class and earning Bester Lifter at the British Junior Powerlifting Championships in both 2007 and 2008, and also representing Great Britain in the European and World Juniors in 2007, where he place 6th and 7th respectively. Alongside Andy, the other Award went to North London lifter Guy Djedje, who has won the 110kg class and earned Best Lifter at  the British Junior Powerlifting Championships in the under 20s age group in both 2007 and 2008. Guy has also been attending the Junior development squads held at British Barbell, and stands a chance of making the 2008 GB team.

Other key outcomes of the meeting, were the formal recognition of the Club's set-up and ongoing maintenance of the Greater London Powerlifting Website, and Ben Banks' appointment as Greater London Records' Registrar. Any members interested in attending future meetings are encouraged to express their interest to the Club email address.
